چکیده
BACKGROUND Recently, the anticarcinogenic effects of green tea have been studied in sites other than the urinary tract. The present study examined the inhibition by green tea of vesical tumors induced in rats by N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN). METHODS In the first series of experiments, 0.05% BBN was added to the drinking water of rats and remained present for 5 weeks. In one experiment, six groups of animals received either tap water, green tea, matcha, hojicha, oolong tea or black tea from week 6. In a second experiment, three groups of rats received either tap water, green tea extract or powdered green tea mixed into a pellet diet from week 6. In a third experiment, five groups of rats were fed a pellet diet with addition of either 0, 0.15, 1.5 or 3.0% powdered green tea from week 6. All rats were killed and examined at 40 weeks. RESULTS Green tea, particularly green tea leaves, dose-dependently inhibited the growth of BBN-induced urinary bladder tumors when given after the carcinogen. CONCLUSIONS Green tea may inhibit bladder tumor growth.

Inhibition of N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine-induced urinary bladder tumor in rats by alpha-difluoromethylornithine.
The therapeutic effects of alpha-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) on rats with bladder tumors induced by N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl) nitrosamine (BBN) were examined. Eight-week-old male Wistar rats were given 0.05% BBN in their drinking water for a period of 4 weeks. Therapy (0.1% DFMO in their drinking water) was started at week 4 and all rats were killed at week 60. DFMO was seen to significantl...

Objective(s):Green tea (GT) is one of the most popular beverages worldwide whose beneficial effects on health have been demonstrated. Recent studies suggest that GT may contribute to reduction of cancer risk and progression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of whole GT on urinary bladder chemical carcinogenesis in male and female ICR mice. Materials and Methods: The GT charact...

The effect of a delay in starting 13-cis-retinoic acid treatment on the inhibition of urinary bladder carcinoma induced by N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine was studied in male Fischer 344 rats. Animals received a total p.o. dose of either 1200, 1800 or 2400 mg N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine over a period of six weeks. At either one, five, and nine weeks after the last N-butyl-N-(4-h...

The potential enhancing effects of the regeneration response of the urothelium following ulceration of the bladder mucosa on N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine carcinogenesis were examined in male Fischer rats. The carcinogen was administered in the drinking water at a concentration of 0.05% for 2 weeks. Ulceration was performed by a freezing technique 24 hr before the administration or 24 h...

N-Butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine (BBN), which specifically induces bladder tumors, was shown to be mutagenic to Salmonella typhimurium strains TA 1535 and TA100 in the presence of an S-9 mix prepared from the liver of rats treated with polychlorinated biphenyl. Reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide was a more effective cofactor than reduced nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate i...
